As the art director, my role involved collaborating closely with the client, engaging in brainstorming sessions, and sketching multiple creative proposals. I took charge of crafting style frames to establish the visual direction and ensure we captured the desired look and feel.
Throughout the animation process, I oversaw every step, from concept to execution. This included handling character rigging and texturing, 2D compositing, and frame-by-frame retouching.
Introducing the mesmerizing opening animation for the 17th edition of Film by the Sea (FBTS) – a captivating glimpse into the enchanting world of Zeeland, our beloved Southern province. When envisioning Zeeland, images of the deep blue ocean, the picturesque coastal plain adorned with vast beaches and dunes, a timeless lantern guiding sailormen at sea, and a charming rustic lighthouse fill our minds. These elements embody the essence of our province, and they became the inspiration for this year's film festival animation.
Film by the Sea approached Woodwork to craft an opening animation that would reflect the region's romantic, classic, and elegant ambiance, infused with the festival's cultural significance. Thus, we embarked on a creative journey to tell a captivating story. Our vision revolved around the enchanting power of the magic lantern, uniting people and transcending the mystical atmosphere of the festival and its unique location.
The final result is a truly magical opening animation, evoking a sense of timeless nostalgia while extending a warm invitation to join us for the 17th edition of Film by the Sea. This enchanting video has served as a promotional film for several years, captivating audiences in cinemas all across the Netherlands, and beckoning them to partake in the magic of the festival.
Step into the enchantment and embark on a cinematic journey like no other as we celebrate the cultural treasures of Zeeland and the magic of cinema at Film by the Sea's 17th edition.
