Since the first meeting with the Director Max Grapperhaus I developed ideas and designs for cell animation on top of the 16mm footage.
As Art Director, I coordinated a team of 3 animators and designers. I developed a coherent style through all the video, enhancing the mood and style for this sweet and emotional social campaign.
From @ambassadors.studio Instagram post:
Thrilled to have collaborated for the second year in a row with @triptothemoonfilms and director @maxie_grapper, bringing this year’s Queer & Pride film to life for @gemeenteamsterdam!
With the film, Max wants to present Queer & Pride Amsterdam in a sensitive and serious way, uncovering a side of the city that’s omnipresent though not always visible. “We want people to feel it’s always there by tickling their senses throughout the city.”
Art Director @ste.paron adds ‘Our team crafted playful, frame by frame, hand-drawn animations that highlight the VO and sprinkle colour across our elegant city’. The 16mm footage gave us the perfect texture and surrealist look to work on, as our Colourist @amybesatecolour said: “Most of the time I am being asked to recreate film so this was just a pure pleasure!”
@bertus_pelser: “Musically, we aimed to create a counterpoint to the playful animations, subtly underlining the voiceover and adding dimension to the film. We avoided ambient or tactile sounds to stay rooted in a more magical world and focus on the voice.“
“Amsterdam is, for me, a city where people should be able to show their true colours, especially in terms of sexual and gender diversity. We want to capture that Amsterdam feeling – its sincerity, which has a vulnerable touch – in a very sensible way with this video.” - Max

In under a week, I took the lead on art direction, design, and animation for this project. I managed everything independently, with occasional input from the director. The video's outcome was a triumph – the client, Geemente Amsterdam, expressed contentment, as the video captured the essence and energy of the city perfectly.
This year, Queer & Pride Ambassadors collaborated with director Max Grapperhaus and Trip to the Moon Films on a unique project for Amsterdam.
The project sheds light on Amsterdam's Pride movement, which has shaped the city's identity through celebrations and protests. With access to Stadsarchief archives, we used a tactile collage style, incorporating paper textures, cuts, and tape, to depict the journey. The visuals are accompanied by vocals from Kyara Harley, while Amp Amsterdam crafted the project's immersive sound design.
Director Max, says: “For a queer filmmaker that grew up in Amsterdam (add my cute degree in History with that) this project was a slay to work on. Next to that: with Ambassadors by your side you know you’ll get next-level results. Let us be inspired by Amsterdam’s special queer history and be motivated to act today and in the future.”
